Interior Design Trends

The next BDAV Continuing Professional Development seminar will focus on interior design trends, which will be of relevance to not only our interior design members, but building designers generally. Two distinguished speakers will participate in this event:

Organic Dwelling: Biomimicry and Architecture Beyond 2010

Biomimcry and Architecture is a visually stunning and thought-provoking look at how the principles of organic dwelling are influencing the design and construction of private and public buildings. This presentation, by interior designer, Kathy Demos, has been prepared in collaboration with world-renowned trend forecaster, Li Edelkoort, who has had a long history working with the design sector. Amongst her many other projects,

Li Edelkoort developed the concept for the Nissan Micra and the translucent finishes that relaunched Apple Mac on the market. Her Paris office produces highly-anticipated forecasts each year, used by businesses around the world.

Kathy Demos has been responsible for the development of comprehensive programs over 25 years that promote Australian design and manufacturing. As Program Director for peak forecasting group, Colourways, Kathy guides design practice, product development and industry expertise through the cycles and trends influenced by greater industry developments and world events. Her clients have included many Australian major manufacturers including CSR, Viridian, Caroma, Wattyl, Resene Paints, and Laminex. She was made a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia for her contribution to the design profession, and is currently on the Board of the John Truscott Design Foundation. Her recent appointment to represent Li Edelkoort in Australia and New Zealand has given rise to a wealth of information that she can share with the design sector, and this presentation is just one example of what can be expected from this collaboration.

The Influence of European Design into the Australian Lifestyle

Our second presenter, Samantha Eades, is also an interior designer with 10 years' experience, specialising in kitchen design. She manages Bontempi Cucine (imported Italian kitchens) for Rogerseller, and has also run her own design practice in the residential sector. Given Rogerseller's focus on providing their clients with the latest local or international product trends, Samantha's presentation on the influence of European design on the Australian lifestyle will be timely and informative.

The event is supported by James Hardie Australia and Drainwave.
